     Technology Assessment                        

 

The technology assessment will determine the strengths and weaknesses of the current models for technology integration into the SEA or LEA.  This assessment will examine all aspects of the utilization of technology in the education enterprise and will place special emphasis around the integration of laptop computers into the primary instructional environment.  The assessment will encompass the following core areas:


Staff Readiness Assessment

oDetermine technology competency levels of all instructional staff utilizing local, state or national assessment surveys (i.e., ISTE).

District (community) Needs Assessment

oConduct community wide surveys and focus groups with student, teachers, parents and administrators documenting their current perceptions of technology uses and future needs/wants.

Hardware Asset Management Assessment

oDocument all hardware assets including desktops, laptops, servers, LCD projectors, printers, smartboards, and digital cameras.  Each asset shall at a minimum include model, make, name, configuration (if applicable), acquisition date, condition of the asset and maintenance agreement (if applicable).

Software Asset Management Assessment

oDocument all software assets including operating systems, administrative application and instructional applications.  Each software assets shall at a minimum include number of registered licenses, maintenance agreement, version number and acquisition date.  

Network infrastructure assessment

Support Services Assessment

oDocument the current process for supporting technology resources at the district and individual school levels.  Determine staff allocation levels per each school site related to both instructional technology support and general IT support services. 

Curriculum Technology Integration Assessment

oDetermine current uses of technology integration into the classroom assessed by elementary, middle and high school levels.

Technology Effectiveness Assessment

oAssess effectiveness of technology utilization in the classroom on student achievement based upon previously administered research studies and surveys and focus groups conducted by DMC.

Financial Assessment

oDetermine if LEA or SEA are utilizing all known federal and state funding sources to acquire technology related hardware, services and training.

Digital Millennial Consulting (DMC) understands the challenges associated with an effective technology integration in order to achieve the desired indicators of success.  As a result, DMC proposes to Baltimore City Public Schools System the utilization of its  strategic technology planning product. The primary goal of the strategic technology plan is to maximize the use of technology in order to increase student achievement.  Secondary goals include the following:


Defining a vision for the SEA or LEA on the use of education technology.

Prepare staff and students on future effective uses of education technology resources.

Determine Gaps and understand current capabilities versus future needs.

Increase coordination and communication among staff and other LEAs or SEAs in order to minimize the duplication of effort.

Insure stakeholder buy in and support for new technology initiatives.

Meet all Federal and State Mandates including NCLB (E2T2) and USAC Guidelines for e-Rate. 

Define all resource requirements necessary to implement the vision.
